Getreal Security Secures $17.5 Million to Combat Deepfake AI

Getreal Security Secures Major Funding

The cybersecurity company, which is combating AI Deepfakes known as Getreal Security, has successfully closed a $17.5 million round of Series A funding in the USA.

This funding round was led by the global cybersecurity and AI investment firm Forgepoint Capital, with participation from Ballistic Enterprises, Evolution Equity, and the K2 Access Fund. Notable strategic investors also included In-Q-Tel (IQT), Cisco Investments, and Capital One Ventures.

Getreal specializes in the detection and mitigation of intrusive generative threats, including deepfake and imitative attacks.

Its technology is utilized by multinational corporations, financial institutions, media organizations, governmental bodies, and social networks.

Growing Concerns Over Deepfake Technologies

The company’s financing announcement comes at a time of increasing concern regarding Deepfake technologies within the music industry, particularly concerning potential fraud and exploitation.

Just last week, a coalition of ten music industry organizations, including RIAA, NMPA, NSAI, AI2M, and others, submitted proposals to the Office of Scientific and Technological Policy regarding the action plan of the Trump administration.

One key proposal urged the government to enhance protections for voice and likeness. The sectoral entities expressed support for the “No Fake Act,” a bipartisan bill aimed at safeguarding individuals’ rights and likenesses from unauthorized AI replication.

“While the unauthorized cloning of AI and likenesses has significantly impacted the creative community, the use of AI technologies for these purposes poses broader implications for personal security and national security,” the organizations noted.

Looking Ahead: The Role of Getreal

In their financing announcement, Getreal stated, “The distribution and general adoption of AI presents both opportunities and challenges for enterprises, including the ease with which AI-generated content can be utilized for legal and illegal ends.”

The company stated that it provides a comprehensive suite of solutions designed to assist organizations in effectively managing risks and mitigating threats posed by these new types of artificial intelligence attacks.

Getreal intends to use the new capital to drive its R&D, product development, and market operations, particularly as it addresses the rapidly evolving threats associated with generative AI and digital content.

The company’s board of directors includes Alberto Yepez, co-founder and managing director of Ballistic Ventures, and Dr. Hani Farid, co-founder of Getreal and director of science, who is recognized as an expert in digital forensics.

“We have reached a critical juncture. AI-generated content is poised to dominate the digital landscape, and malicious actors are already exploiting these advancements.”

According to Ted Schlein, Chairman and co-founder of Getreal and general partner at Ballistic Ventures, “The need for solutions that can swiftly and accurately verify and authenticate digital media has never been more urgent. We welcome these new investors into our syndicate and look forward to collaborating to protect enterprises and governments from the escalating threats posed by AI fraud.”
