Upcoming KISS Production:
Meanwhile, KISS is preparing for their forthcoming Avatar show, which Paul Stanley has characterized as “Cirque Du Soleil meets Star Wars and a KISS concert.”
The production is being managed by the team behind ABBA’s “Voyage” show, where the iconic Swedish pop band was represented on stage by holographic virtual avatars.
Pophouse acquired the KISS catalog, trademarks, and intellectual property in April, with the band launching their “new era” during the final performance of their farewell tour last December at Madison Square Garden. After stepping off stage, the band’s avatars were revealed and continued to perform “God Gave Rock And Roll To You”.
Shortly after, co-founder Gene Simmons indicated that the band’s virtual avatars are “improving” and disclosed that around “$200 million” has been invested in developing the technology.
In other news, Simmons recently reiterated his assertion that “rock is dead” by questioning, “Who are the new Beatles?” He went on to cite Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Foo Fighters as examples of more recent bands that fit that description. “What I’m saying is, if you’re randomly walking down the street and you ask the first young person you see, a 20-year-old guy, and you say, ‘Name me someone from Pearl Jam,’ good luck with that. “Call me or tell me a song. Hum a song. They (cannot).”
