Fyre Festival 2 Ticket Holders Speak Out After Last-Minute Cancellation: ‘Billy McFarland Must Be Nostalgic for Prison’

Fyre Fest 2 Postponed

Fyre Fest 2 has been officially postponed, and many took to social media to express their lack of surprise.

Details of the Cancellation

Less than two months before it was set to take place, Fyre Fest 2 was put on hold at the start of this week. Initially scheduled for May 30 to June 2 in Mexico, tickets went on sale in February, but doubts soon emerged about this highly publicized “continuation” of the infamous Fyre Fest 2017.

The news regarding the cancellation was first communicated through an email to ticket holders and those subscribed to the festival, as reported by ABC News. It was later made public.

In their notification to ticket holders, the festival organizers stated: “The event has been postponed, and a new date will be announced. We will provide compensation. Once the new date is set, you may purchase tickets if it works for your schedule.”

The organizers claim that the festival is still happening, as reported by Independent. However, many on social media remain unconvinced.

While the lack of surprise around the festival’s downfall is evident, many are astonished that some bought tickets again. Referring to the festival’s founder, who was released from prison in 2022 after being found guilty of multiple fraud charges, one X/Twitter user remarked: “Billy McFarland should really love prison. There are no refunds for those who have already given the fraudster their money.”

So far, McFarland has not made any public statements following the announcement of the postponement.

Others took a different stance on the news, blaming customers rather than McFarland. One user stated, “If you are foolish enough to purchase a ticket for Fyre Festival after everything, you deserve what will happen to you.”

Back in February, the festival was announced to take place on Isla Mujer, a tropical island near Cancun, Mexico. However, local officials quickly refuted this claim, stating that no such event had been coordinated. Edgar Gaska from the tourism department of Isla Mujeres said, “We do not know about this event and have not been contacted by anyone regarding it. To us, this is an event that does not exist.”

Future of Fyre Fest

At the beginning of this month, it was also revealed that the permit acquired by McFarland allows for only a 12-hour listening event with a capacity of less than 300 people. According to the documents, the permit allows a maximum of 250 attendees and can only operate from midnight to 4 a.m. each day from May 30 to June 1, with no live performances permitted.

When McFarland first announced the return of the Fyre Festival, he claimed that it would host 1,800 guests and feature live performances from 40 artists.

Despite rumors, no performers have been officially confirmed. Former Fyre Festival investor Andy King also expressed concerns about “many red flags” surrounding the proposed relaunch of the event.

The original Fyre Festival was designed eight years ago to take place over two weekends on a private beach in the Bahamas but was ultimately revealed to be fraudulent when attendees faced inadequate conditions, food shortages, and a lack of basic amenities.

This fiasco was documented in the now-infamous Netflix documentary Fyre.
