Fyre Festival 2 Claims and Official Denials
Fyre Festival 2 “does not exist,” according to the official statement from the Tourist Council in Mexico, although the event asserts its “real” status on social media.
This announcement followed Billy McFarland’s claim that his “real return” would occur from May 30 to June 2 in Isla Mujeres, a tropical island. Tickets went on sale this week, with prices ranging from $1,400 to $25,000, while premium packages cost up to $1.1 million.
Local Authorities’ Reactions
However, the tourist council and local officials have stated that the festival is nonexistent. Edgar Gaska from the tourism department of Isla Mujeres mentioned to Keeper, “We do not know about this event and do not have contact with the involved person or company. For us, this is an event that does not exist.”
Gaska, who was in Bogota, Colombia, at a tourism fair when he learned of the news, confirmed discussions with the Minister of Tourism in Quintana Roo and stated that there were no hotels associated with Fyre Festival 2.
Keeper reached out to Isla Mujeres’ luxury hotels promised for accommodations by Fyre, which reported no inquiries or investigations regarding the event.
“The organizers didn’t even bother to approach the authorities,” Gaska commented. “This is very unusual, as any organizer knows that if you plan to hold an event, especially a large-scale one, you need municipal approval.”
“I think they assumed they could simply announce it and gauge the interest, then seek permission later,” Gaska added. “This is a rather naive way of thinking.”
Last week, the festival took to social media to announce its return and referred to itself as “real” in an extensive post.
