Fyre Fest 2 Delayed Indefinitely

Fyre Fest 2 Postponed Indefinitely

Fyre Fest 2 was officially postponed indefinitely.

Less than two months before the event was scheduled to take place, Fyre Fest 2 was placed on hold. The delay was initially communicated in an email to ticket holders and subscribers of the Fyre Festival. ABC News broke the news publicly.

The notification from Fyre Festival included the message: “The event has been postponed, and a new date will be announced. Compensation is being provided. Once the new date is confirmed, tickets will be available for purchase, depending on your availability.”

The postponement was also confirmed by DeadMau5, who shared a screen capture of the announcement.

Background of the Festival

Fyre Fest 2 was originally planned to take place from May 30 to June 2 in Mexico. Tickets went on sale in February but skepticism grew about the much-anticipated sequel to the infamous Fyre Fest of 2017.

In February, it was announced that the festival would be hosted on Isla Mujeres, a tropical island near Cancun, Mexico. However, local officials and the tourism council quickly stated that they had no knowledge of such an event. Edgar Gaska from the tourism department of Isla Mujeres remarked, “We do not know about this event and have not been contacted by anyone regarding this. For us, this is an event that does not exist.”

Additionally, it was revealed earlier this month that founder Billy McFarland only received permission for a 12-hour listening party with a maximum of 300 attendees.

According to permits, the event can accommodate a maximum of 250 people, operates only for 12 hours (from midnight to 4 AM from May 30 to June 1), and does not permit live performances.

Initially, when McFarland announced the return of Fyre Festival, he indicated plans for 1,800 guests and live performances from 40 artists.

No talent has officially been confirmed, although former NFL star Antonio Brown claimed to have been booked for the festival. Recently, former Fyre Festival investor Andy King also voiced concerns about “many red flags” regarding the rebooted event.

The original Fyre Festival was designed to occur over two weekends on a private beach in the Bahamas, but it turned out to be a fraudulent venture, leaving attendees stranded without proper accommodations, food, or water.

The notorious failure was documented in the Netflix film Fyre.

The initial announcement in 2017 noted that performances from artists like Blink-182, Major Lazer, Disclosure, Migos, Pusha T, Tyga, and more were expected. McFarland was released from prison in 2022 after being convicted on multiple counts of fraud.
