Great Escape: SSR from Tokyo
Great Escape will feature this year’s showcase titled “SSR from Tokyo: Choice of Friendship.” The event is scheduled to take place at a church in Brighton on May 16.
Indie Acts from Japan
The GIG aims to bridge the indie music scenes of Japan and Great Britain and will present four acts from Tokyo’s vibrant indie landscape: Fin, She Is Her, Vivaola, and Ålborg.
The founder of FRIENDSHIP, Kazuto Yamazaki, explains the inception of this showcase: “As the founder of Friendse, a digital music distribution service, I initiated our showcase ‘SSR (Shibuya Sound Riverse)’ in 2022 to preserve the warmth and human connection of analog music, even in today’s digital age. SSR was designed to introduce audiences to Japan’s indie scene and connect them with artists.”
Fin, who previously performed in the UK, is returning after their shows at Fuji Rock, SXSW, and a strawberry festival in China. “During our last performance, we were truly captivated by the atmosphere of the city and the festival itself. It left a lasting impression on us,” says Yuto Uchinino from the band.
The showcase will run from 12:00 to 16:00, featuring performances by She Is Her at 12:30, Vivaola at 13:30, Ålborg at 14:30, and Fin at 15:30.
