Memories of Violin Lessons
Fatboy Slim remembered how he once took violin lessons with the prime minister.
DJ and producer – the real name of Norman Cook – also talked about how he went to the same school as Keir Starmer for five years in a new interview with Keeper Field.
He said: “I really can’t remember the violin lessons. But I studied in the same class at school as Keir for five years, so I remember him well.
“He must have been better on the violin than me, because I did it for about one period. My parents could no longer make noise, so I would say that Keir was better.”
Reflections on Friendship and Ambition
He continued: “This is quite strange when one day you see someone on the TV channel and say: ‘Oh, look, this is Keir Starmer from 4b.’ I think he is alone in becoming a prime minister.”
Cook also mentioned that he still has his own number on the phone and “they are still talking.”
His latest comments echo sentiments he shared during his interview with NME in 2022.
At that time, he also noted: “By chance, we had another classmate who always claimed they would become the prime minister of England, and we believed him because he was the smartest in the classroom. They did not continue to pursue it, but Keir most likely will. However, at that time he did not show any political ambitions.”
A Shift in Music Passion
In another interview, Cook recently revealed that he has lost his “passion for creating music.”
“The fact is that you cannot create music if you are not passionate about it, and this does not give you the excitement you feel when you wake up in the morning,” he explained at the time.
“I just don’t feel like that anymore. It feels like I am putting on a performance, but I have kind of lost my passion for creating music.” The last full-format album from Cook as Fatboy Slim was released in 2004 titled Palookaville. In 2010, he also released a soundtrack he composed with David Byrne for the musical Love Lies Bleeding.
“For five years, I tried to push myself and say: ‘You must do this.’ But then I thought: ‘Well, everyone enjoys my DJing, and I like it more, so I will focus on that,’” he admitted. “I hope that one day my passion will return.”
Cook is already scheduled to perform at Kendal’s “Call” and the “Festival of Latitude” in 2025, along with the British Grand Prix of Formula 1, featuring Sam Fender and Ray.
