Details on the Announcement

On January 27, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H Levesque announced via social media that the track will debut as the theme for the upcoming pay-per-view event on February 1.

This event is part of the “big four” WWE shows, alongside Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series, and continues to be one of WWE’s most anticipated events, featuring 30 competitors vying to eliminate each other by throwing them over the top rope.

“From Brat Summer to #Wrestlemania season, @charli_xcx’s ‘Von Dutch’ will be the official theme for #RoyalRumble10,” he tweeted, referencing its significant impact on user culture last year.

The choice was hinted at prior to the official announcement and appeared in various promotional videos for the event expected to take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, this weekend. It indicates a shift from traditional rock and hip-hop themes.

This is not Charli XCX’s first collaboration with WWE; past themes have included Megan Thee Stallion’s “Neva Play” for WWE SmackDown and Travis Scott’s “4 × 4” for WWE Raw ahead of his Netflix move earlier this month.

Mixed Reactions from Fans

Despite the collaboration, fans have had divided reactions, with some excited about this new direction while others long for the traditional rock anthems used in the past.

“I miss the days of rock music. They made personal connections between wrestlers and fans. Pop/hip-hop themes sell extravagance instead,” one user commented on 411 Mania. Another criticized WWE’s choice as “a terrible choice of music.”

While some express nostalgia for previous rock-themed events, others appreciate the modern approach, viewing it as a potential turning point for WWE. “Great choice! ‘Brat’ was the most culturally significant album of 2024,” one fan wrote on 411 Mania.

Triple H’s decision comes after nearly thirty years of involvement with WWE, where he was appointed executive vice president for global strategy and talent development in 2020, later becoming the head of WWE Creative.

His journey began in 1992, and by 2002 he had already clinched the Royal Rumble title. His recent elevation and the shift towards pop music themes may reflect WWE’s broader goal to modernize its brand.

As for Charli XCX, her inclusion in WWE marks yet another significant milestone after the release of her sixth studio album. Following the success of “Brat,” she experienced a remarkable rise in popularity, leading to sold-out tours, including a collaboration with Troye Sivan. She also excelled as both a performer and host on Saturday Night Live and garnered eight Grammy nominations this year.
