At least 66 people have been confirmed dead following the collapse of a nightclub in the Dominican Republic during a concert on April 8.

Details of the Incident

Among the 66 confirmed deceased, as reported by CNN, was the renowned Dominican singer Rubby Perez, who was performing at the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, according to Katya Stone. The tragic roof collapse occurred about an hour after his performance ended.

As of the latest updates from CNN, over 160 patrons were reported injured, and the total number of missing persons remains unclear. The cause of the structural failure has not been established yet.

Perez was initially found alive, and his daughter Zulinka stated that paramedics “found him” under the debris, helping to signal his location. He was subsequently transported to a hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Additionally, CNN reported that several former Major League Baseball players, including Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco, were among the deceased. Nelsi Kruz, the governor of Monte Cristi province, was confirmed dead by Dominican President Luis Abinader, while the son of the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Eslell, is still unaccounted for.

A three-day mourning period has been declared by President Abinader.
