Previous Works and Future Collaborations
Mura Masa released his fourth studio album, “Curve 1,” in August of last year, which was characterized as “a dark departure from the pop sound” of his two preceding albums, allowing listeners to “forge their own interpretation of night roots.”
He is also a highly sought-after producer for other artists, contributing to the 2022 PinkPantheress hit “Boy’s a Liar.” Additionally, he released the Mercury Prize-nominated album “Nymph” and is set to collaborate with PinkPantheress again on the upcoming 2024 track titled “Turn It Up.”
Last month, Shygirl launched her new EP ‘Club Shy Room 2,’ which includes the lead single “F*Me,” co-produced by Mura Masa.
“Curve 1” marked Mura Masa’s first project as an independent artist, launching his own label. He also established The Pond, a creative hub and arts space in Peckham, London, which will officially open next year.
Prior to “Curve 1,” he released the album “Demon Time” in 2022. In a four-star review, NME noted that “Demon Time” combines the essence of his previous electronic music with emo sensibilities of “RYC.” It is his most genre-blurring effort, showcasing influences from early 2000s music while incorporating modern tastes.
Collaborations with artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Shygirl, and PinkPantheress on “BbyCakes” represent one of these examples. This track pays homage to the British garage scene of the early 2000s while blending elements of trap and steel drums for a fresh sound.
