Everything but the Girl: Charlie XCX, Adrianne Lenker, and More Reunite for Intimate London Concerts After 25 Years

Return of the Duet

Everyone except the girl had fulfilled their first concerts in 25 years at a couple of intimate shows in London.

On April 6 and 7, everyone except the girl – the duet Trishi Thorne and Ben Watt – set up their first public concerts since 2000 at Moth Club in London. Notably, Thorne and Watt performed many of their original hits along with covers of songs by artists like Charlie XCX, Adrianne Lenker, and more.

The duet opened their show on April 6 with a cover of “Night and Day” by Cole Porter, followed by a rendition of Charlie XCX’s “I could say something stupid.” On April 7, they also delivered performances of Bridget St. John’s “Song to World,” “Company,” Adrianna Lenker’s “All,” and “Delete” by Family Stereo.

Show personnel have not yet been made available on social media.

The concerts followed the group’s first new music release in 24 years in January 2023, featuring the single “Nothing to Lose.” In April of the same year, they released the album Fuse, their first record since 1999.

Upon release, Fuse received a glowing four-star review from NME and was described as “extremely satisfying.” “In addition to the release of this project, the group’s itinerary for upcoming shows has not yet been fully disclosed, but the power of their return with Fuse is undeniable,” they stated. “This is a rare instance of reunification between members – as partners, parents, and creators – demonstrating how significantly music can influence the landscape, as well as the enjoyment of this moment.”

Talking with NME about their return, Watt shared: “We have never been a particularly nostalgic group – we’ve always embraced a different sound with each project. Sometimes that pushed us into the mainstream, but we just strive to keep things interesting and modern.”

“We wanted our comeback to feature a modern sound,” he continued. “We’re not on a heritage path, doing ‘best of’ tours or playing arenas. We simply wanted to create work that sounds great in 2023. That was our motivation.”
