New Single Announcement
Emma-Jean Thakray has unveiled her latest single, “It the Open,” featuring the drummer from Seattle and the rapper who leads the Kassa group. This track is part of her upcoming second album “Weirdo,” set to be released on April 25th via Brownswood Recordings and Parlophone.
Artistic Reflection
“This is normal” holds significant meaning for Thakray, who explains, “This is a lullaby for anyone who needs to find some calm—offering hugs or a gentle pat on the shoulder. Recently, I struggled to engage with the pipe, resulting in limited brass on the album. The few instances where brass appears truly express my emotions, particularly the solo pipe during the bridge, which is quite emblematic. The cash desk serves as a comrade, faithfully delivering the message. The intention for all listeners is to acknowledge that ‘this is normal’ will come; perhaps, it’s also a reminder for oneself.”
Upcoming Tour Dates
The album, crafted, performed, mixed, produced, and arranged by Thakray in her South London apartment, draws influences from a variety of genres including grunge, pop, soul, p-funk, and jazz. Originally envisioned as an exploration of neurodiversity and mental health, the project evolved after the passing of her long-term partner in January 2023.
