Eminem, Janet Jackson, and Others Miss Out on Induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame

2025 Inductees Announced

The list of 2025 inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame has been released, but does not include nominated artists such as Eminem, Janet Jackson and others.

Last night (January 22nd), the Songwriters Hall of Fame announced the inductees of its Class of 2025 after the nominations were revealed in November. This year’s inductees include George Clinton, The Doobie Brothers, Ashley Gorley, Rodney Jerkins, Mike Love, and Tony Macaulay.

Artists who were nominated in November but did not make the final list include Eminem, Janet Jackson, Boy George, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, NWA, Bryan Adams, and others. Out of a total of 26 nominated artists, only six were chosen for induction.

These six inductees will be honored at the 2025 Induction & Awards Gala in New York City in June.

Previous Induction Highlights

The 2024 inductees featured R.E.M., Timbaland, Steely Dan, Hillary Lindsay, and Dean Pitchford, while Cindy Walker and Prince received posthumous honors. SZA and Diane Warren were also recognized with special awards.

In 2023, Jade, Snoop Dogg, and Jeff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra were part of that year’s class, alongside Gloria Estefan, Teddy Riley, Glen Ballard, and Liz Rose.

In a three-star review of Eminem’s latest album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace),” NME wrote: “Much more powerful is ‘Temporary,’ a truly touching ode to his daughter Hayley that proves Marshall Mathers can say something important when he wants to.”

“So, who killed Slim Shady? By bringing him back into the light and casting him as irrelevant, Eminem may have ended his old pal for good. Okay, we get it – Shady was a shocking character. Now that he’s dead, how about we get some new material?”

In other Eminem news, the rapper, nominated for Best Rap Performance at the upcoming Grammys, expressed confidence that Kendrick Lamar will likely take home all seven awards for which he is nominated: “Kendrick will blow this shit away. He’s going to do it and he has to do it.”
