Elton John’s Eye Condition Update
Sir Elton John joked about the condition of his eyes at the 2025 Golden Globes – see what he said below.
In September, the legendary singer-songwriter revealed that he had been battling an infection over the summer that left him with “only limited vision in one eye.” “I am recovering, but it is an extremely slow process and it will take some time before vision returns to the affected eye,” he continued.

In late November, John provided an update on his condition, saying it had been “four months” since he had been unable to see properly. “And my left eye isn’t the best,” he said, adding that it made him feel “stuck” while working on the new album.
Elton now seems to be in a good mood about his condition and even joked about it during the Golden Globes. While presenting the award for Best Original Score for a Film starring Brandi Carlile, Elton said on stage, “I don’t know if you know, but there have been a lot of stories about my regressive vision.”
He continued: “I just wanted to reassure everyone that it’s not as bad as it seems. I’m so happy to be here with my co-host Rihanna.” The moment sparked a fit of laughter as he and Brandi Carlile giggled on stage.

In early December, Elton John shared an update on his condition while attending the band’s gala. The Devil Wears Prada: “I wasn’t able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I lost my eyesight.”
After joking about his eyesight at the Golden Globes, Elton and Brandi announced the winner for Best Original Score – Motion Picture. When Brandi announced Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross as award winners for their Contenders soundtrack, Elton cheered them on with pride.

In other Elton John news, the legendary musician unveiled a new wax figure of him doing his iconic handstand on a piano at Madame Tussauds London in late December.
The figure is modeled after his appearance at the 1975 one-day Midsummer Music festival at Wembley Stadium and depicts him wearing a replica of the bejeweled Bob Mackie jumpsuit he wore during his performance. It also comes with his signature colorful glasses and platform shoes, and the piano he’s pictured with is covered in 24,000 rhinestones.
Elsewhere, the artist hinted at new music, saying in a new interview that the “juices never dried up.”
