Reflections on the Brit Awards

The singer-songwriter discussed her appreciation for the former NME Cover Star during a recent interview at the Brit Awards 2025. Speaking with NME on the red carpet after receiving a nomination for “Song of the Year” for her track “Alibi,” Henderson expressed pride in the diverse lineup of nominees this year and her affection for the London artist.

“Being part of a category filled with so many incredible artists from different backgrounds, cultures, and age groups is truly exciting,” she began. “I think it’s vital for British artists to come together, and I believe many women will receive awards and perform. I love to see it.”

She continued, “I’m thrilled for Lola Young. I feel this marks the beginning of an exciting chapter in her career. I know she’s put in a lot of hard work, and it seems like a special moment for her. I just want her to enjoy this and am excited to see her perform ‘Dirty.’”

Young was nominated for the “Best Pop Act” category alongside Charlie XCX, Dua Lipa, and Myles Smith, but the award ultimately went to Jade, marking her first British award as a solo artist.

Upcoming Music and Future Plans

In addition to discussing the increasing visibility of female talent at the awards, Henderson shared with NME her plans for the remainder of 2025, which include releasing new music “very, very soon” and adopting a more “implacable” approach to her songwriting style.

“I want to release more music, keep doing what I’m doing, and remain true to myself. I believe I’ve always done that in my music, regardless of the genre I explore or what I invest in—I always give 110 percent,” she explained. “The more I can do in the future, the happier I will be.”

“(This arrives) by the end of this month,” she told NME when asked when fans can expect new material. “I can’t wait; it feels like it’s been a long time coming.”

“I’ve made a lot of dance records, and in this new era, I think the single ‘Filthy Rich’ sets the tone for where I’m heading. It’s about lifting the lid on things and allowing people to hear my lyrics,” she added. “There will be lots of expressive words, but that’s who I am. You might love it or hate it, but I have a good feeling about it.”

The multi-platinum selling artist burst onto the scene ten years ago with her debut single “Ghost.” Since then, she has achieved five Top 10 hits in the UK, including “Let’s Go Home Together,” a collaboration with Tom Grennan, and released her latest album “Everything I Didn’t Say.” Last summer, she opened for Kylie Minogue during the latter’s extensive slot at BST Hyde Park.

At the British ceremony held at the O2 last weekend, Henderson was nominated for “Song of the Year” alongside Rudimental for their song “Alibi.” The award ultimately went to Charlie XCX and Billie Eilish for their collaboration on “Guess.” Check out the complete list of winners from the night here.

As for Lola Young, she performed her viral hit “Messy” at the ceremony and discussed with NME why she believes the song resonates with many listeners.

“I think it’s about the idea that you don’t have to be what others want women to be,” she shared on the red carpet. “Although it’s not easy, everyone can feel inadequate at times.” Find her full interview here.
