Edwyn Collins has revealed his 10th solo album, Nation Shall Speak Unto Nation – check out the new single “Knowledge” below.

The Scottish musician, producer, and former Orange Juice frontman will release the 11-track LP on March 14 via AED Records. Pre-order/save here.

Details About the Upcoming Album

Following 2019’s Badbea, the upcoming album was recorded at Collins’ Clashnarrow Studio in Helmsdale, north-east Scotland. It was co-produced by the singer-songwriter alongside Sean Reed and Jake Hutton, both of whom also appear on the album.

Collins offered the first glimpse of Nation… with the reflective and personal track “Knowledge,” in which he recalls being “shy and awkward” during his teenage years.

The single opens with confessional lyrics: “Knowledge is my friend/ First lost, now found.” Collins further reflects that “it’s so hard to let go of your old self,” culminating in a chorus that features gospel-like backing vocals and horns.

“Knowledge is what I think about. I used to be quite clever, and I still am,” Collins shared regarding his latest release. “However, knowledge is wisdom combined with all your experiences. I believe I have learned a lot.”

The track comes with an official music video, filmed between Christmas and New Year in Collins’ hometown of Helmsdale. The film was directed by Delbert Antonio Wright, a childhood friend of the musician.

Other tracks featured on Collins’ new album include “Paper Planes,” “The Heart Is A Foolish Little Thing,” “Sound As A Pound,” “A Little Sign,” and “Rhythm Is My Own World.”

The press release emphasizes that A Nation… radiates “boundless, life-affirming hope,” and the collection is noted for being “affirming, decisive, and incredibly memorable.”

The album is characterized as Collins’ “most subtly crafted, thought-provoking, and candid yet,” comprising a collection of songs that span two decades and is said to be his “most optimistic” work to date.

Nation… also features musicians such as James Walbourne on guitar, Collins’ son William on bass, Carwyn Ellis on guitar, with Lena Wright and Bianca White providing backing vocals. William is credited as a co-author of Weird Old World, alongside Ellis as co-writer. ‘The mountains are my home.’
