Ed Sheeran Shares Archival Photos on Instagram Ahead of New Single “Old Phone,” Featuring Snapshots with Taylor Swift, Elton John, and More from a Decade Ago

Ed Shiran Reflects on His Past

Ed Shiran shared an archival account on Instagram just before the release of his new single “Old Phone.” Find out more below.

Behind the Scenes of “Old Phone”

On April 29, Shiran took to Instagram to reveal a second account where he reflects on his life in 2015. This account, dubbed the old Teddy phone, has been publishing ten-year-old photos over the past month, gradually building a nostalgic collection.

The A-Team singer has now made the account public right before launching his new single “Old Phone,” showcasing his experiences as he revisits one of his old mobile devices.

The account offers background for his upcoming song, inspired by his journey through an old phone while submitting copyright applications. This process evoked a flood of memories tied to past emotions.

Shiran shares that while revisiting his phone, he stumbled upon old text messages from the late Jamal Edwards, along with messages from former relationships and family members he hadn’t spoken to in years.

His reflections included: “It felt like a time capsule from 2015. As I scrolled through conversations with people who are no longer here, I realized I was revisiting emotions tied to those memories.”

“This song was meant for my debut album, but it took real-life experiences to write it. It’s emotional for me to perform, and I hope it resonates with you. Maybe it will inspire you to revisit your old phone and your life from a decade ago.”

Among the 200+ posts shared on the archive page are personal photos with Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Asher, Sam Smith, Elton John, and more.

Shiran first discussed the “old phone” during his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last month.

Recently, he released a video for “Azizam,” a term in Persian meaning “my dear” or “my beloved,” where he performs at a lively Persian wedding. This marks the first release from his forthcoming album, Play, for which an official release date has yet to be announced.

Shiran also announced that a new track called “Sapphire” will be released in the coming months, and he plans to offer new music every two to three weeks.

The singer-songwriter will embark on European shows from May to September 2025, concluding the year with performances in Bhutan, India, Qatar, and Bahrain.

Last week, he collaborated with Noah Kahan for a short acoustic duet at a Nashville pub, and prior to that, he performed at Coachella 2025, where he was a late addition to the Mojave stage. He also joined Post Malone for a closing performance at the festival last weekend.
