Duran Duran Commends Former Guitarist Andy Taylor’s Courageous Fight Against Cancer

Andy Taylor’s Battle with Cancer

Duran Duran released new updates regarding Andy Taylor’s fight against cancer, stating that the former guitarist is “fighting as much as he can.”

Taylor has been battling metastatic prostate cancer in its fourth stage, which is deemed incurable, since 2018. The musician was part of Duran Duran from 1980 to 2006 and was expected to reunite with them last year for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However, complications from his treatment prevented him from attending.

Group’s Support and Upcoming Performances

Recently, the band provided updates about Taylor’s health during their appearance at the music festival in Sanremo, Italy, on February 13.

Vocalist Simon Le Bon told fans at the press conference: “I am sure that he would like to be here. As you probably know, he has prostate cancer. This is very late-stage, metastasized cancer of the fourth stage. He fights as he can, and we are in this struggle, ”he stated during the press conference, in the coverage from JoeField.

He continued: “There is something between us that holds us together. First of all, we love the music that we create. No one else makes music like us. We all tried to do something solo, but it doesn’t seem as thrilling as when we come together and collaborate.”

“We make each other laugh, and I believe this is very important in a long-lasting relationship. During stressful times, we laugh through it all, keeping the atmosphere light and enjoyable. Additionally, we divide all earnings equally. No one takes all the royalties. We all share our finances fairly.”

Although Taylor’s cancer is incurable, he mentioned in 2023 that he was undergoing treatment with Lutetium-177, which he referred to as “nuclear medicine.” He noted that this treatment had extended his life by five years.

“It cannot differentiate healthy cells,” he explained at that time (via BBC News). “It targets stage four cancer in the bones. As this process continues, it effectively extends my life by five years.”

As for the rest of the band, Duran Duran is set to perform two major shows in Ireland later this year, alongside Nile Rogers and Shika. These performances are part of their world tour, which will also feature two stops in the UK. Check the list of upcoming tour dates below, and visit here to purchase ticketsField.
