Reflections on ‘Future Nostalgia’
In a recent interview with UK Billboard, the pop star discussed her 2020 album Future Nostalgia, which earned her the Best Pop Vocal Album award at the 2021 Grammy Awards. She noted that the record facilitated her “growth as an artist, pushed boundaries and changed,” giving her the “confidence to embrace ‘radical optimism’.”
Her third studio album, released on May 3, 2024, reached number one on the UK charts and number two on the US Billboard 200. However, it did not receive any nominations at the 67th Grammy Awards, which are scheduled for February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
Commenting on the album and its absence from the Recording Academy nominations, Lipa stated: “I’m so proud of ‘Radical Optimism’ and where it’s taken me. I love this album and have enjoyed performing it live; this year, I achieved something I thought was merely a dream, so I’m very grateful.”
“While recognition in your industry is nice—especially for a woman—I take pride in seeing so many amazing female artists nominated for the Grammys this year.”
Upcoming Performances and Other News
NME provided a three-star review of “Radical Optimism,” stating: “Radical optimism offers little to grasp onto. This summer, she will headline Glastonbury for the first time and also take the lead at various European festivals. The album’s beachy vibe is well-suited to the carefree atmosphere of festival fields, though one wishes for more substance in these songs.”
Stars such as Sabrina Carpenter, Chappelle Rohan, Charli XCX, and Billie Eilish have been nominated for the upcoming Grammy Awards, with Beyoncé heading the list with 11 nominations.
This year’s nominations follow last year’s notable presence of women in music, with female artists securing six of the eight nominations for both Album of the Year and Record of the Year.
In other updates, Lipa appeared alongside Roan and Lady Gaga on the Apple TV series Christmas Karaoke in the Car. The holiday special premiered last night (December 15) and was unexpectedly released on Apple platforms.
