The pop sensation headlined the Pyramid Stage this year alongside Coldplay and SZA, following the release of her third studio album, Radical Optimism, in May.
The Best Year of Her Life
In a recent interview with Billboard, Lipa reminisced about “the best year of (her) life,” during which she was able to do “what (she) wanted for so long,” including her debut at Worthy Farm in June.
“I try not to let these moments pass me by, so I made sure I took as many mental photos as possible while standing there,” Lipa shared. “It was so beautiful. I’ve received numerous messages from previous headliners. At that moment, I felt like I earned a badge of honor and joined the coolest club in the world.”
Lipa mentioned that Adele, who headlined Glastonbury in 2016, was one of those who sent her good wishes.
“She said, ‘I’ve been thinking about you all day and just wanted to wish you luck for tonight. Don’t forget to soak it all in,” Lipa recalled. “Looking back at that pyramid, that’s what I tried to do.”
Guest Appearances and Future Plans
Lipa was joined on stage by Kevin Parker, frontman of Tame Impala, during her Glastonbury headline set. Parker, who co-produced and co-wrote the song “Radical Optimism,” performed “The Less I Know The Better” with her and played guitar on the closing track “Houdini.”
Before the performance, Lipa revealed how she “came into her own” as a Glastonbury headliner with her third album. She also remembered writing an early note about her dream of collaborating with Parker.
Following a four-star review of Lipa’s main stage performance at Glastonbury, NME noted it as “a powerful performance that will silence the critics.”
The review highlighted her emotional connection to the crowd, stating, “I don’t want this moment to pass me by,” she said, overwhelmed by the audience in front of her. “I won’t get tired of this.” The evening celebrated pop music at its finest and proved that even the boldest dreams can become reality.
In addition, Lipa expressed her feelings about “Radical Optimism” not receiving a nomination for the 2025 Grammy Awards.
In other news, the star has released a live album featuring her special orchestral concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall, which also aired as a TV special on ITV this month.
Lipa will kick off a significant stadium tour across the UK and Ireland next summer, which includes two dates at Wembley. Remaining tickets can be found here.
NME recently ranked Lipa’s single “Training Season” at No. 42 on its list of the 50 Best Songs of 2024, describing the track as “a stunning slice of disco-pop backed by a pulsating, infectious beat.”
