The Canadian rapper, who returned to Australia and New Zealand this month for his first tour in eight years, has pushed back his remaining four shows in Brisbane, Sydney, and Auckland due to a schedule clash.
Details of the Rescheduled Shows
Drake was originally set to perform in Brisbane on March 4, Sydney on March 7, and two shows in Auckland, New Zealand, on March 15 and 16. According to a representative of Drake, as reported by Rolling Stone AU/NZ, the postponement stems from a “conflict of planning.”
The representative added that the four shows are postponed, and new shows are being planned: “We are actively working to reschedule these dates along with adding some additional shows.”
The new dates have yet to be confirmed, and updates will be provided to ticket holders “as soon as possible.” Meanwhile, all tickets purchased for the original shows will be honored for the new dates, with refund options available for those who prefer them.
Drake’s tour, which began with a 14-day run in Australia and New Zealand on February 9 in Melbourne, saw him perform 10 shows before the schedule conflict arose. During this tour, Drake made headlines by gifting selected fans substantial amounts of money. One notable instance involved him instructing his team to give a 20-week pregnant woman at a show in Sydney “about $30,000” and upgrading her to VIP status.
Future Plans and Upcoming Festival Appearance
Since then, fan signs requesting money have gone viral, leading to a photograph dubbed “anti-utopian,” which shows the rapper standing beside fans requesting cash.
Despite this, Drake did not shy away from giving back to fans. At another show in Sydney last week, he spotted a fan holding a sign that read: “Rock-paper-scissors to buy my dad a car for his birthday.”
“I like this sign right here,” Drake remarked upon noticing it. “Are you ready? This is my game, boy.” After defeating the fan in the first round, he allowed another chance, saying, “I’ll give you one more. Think about it. 1, 2, 3.” Resulting in a tie in the next two rounds, Drake won again in the fourth round but still gave the fan $20,000 to help purchase his dad a car.
In other news, Drake has been announced as a headliner for this year’s Wireless Festival, where he is set to perform across all three nights of the annual musical event. The festival is scheduled to return to Finsbury Park in London from July 11 to 13, and Drake will make history by being the first artist to headline three nights with three different sets.
These will be Drake’s first performances in the UK in six years, and he will be joined onstage by artists like Burna Boy, PartynextDoor, Summer Walker, and Vybz Kartel. Tickets for the event are available here.
Additionally, Drake recently released his joint album '$ Omy $ Exy $ Ongs 4 U' with PartynextDoor on Valentine’s Day (February 14), which features a collection of sultry R&B tracks, including themes addressing conflicts with Kendrick Lamar and tensions with Future, Metro Boomin, and Rick Ross.
Kendrick, meanwhile, took shots at Drake during his Super Bowl break performance on February 10, even mocking him over a lawsuit against Universal Music Group for promoting “not like us.” “I want to play their favorite song, but you know they love to judge,” Kendrick said before teasing the song for just a moment before playing it later in the set.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Drake denied the “key allegations” in his case against Universal Music Group regarding Kendrick Lamar’s diss track aimed at him, “not like us.”
