The singer teamed up with the Country icon on a fresh take of the hit from the Deluxe Edition of Carpenter’s latest album, “Short N ‘Sweet”, released last month.

In an interview Knox NewsIN, Parton stated that she informed Carpenter before agreeing to the collaboration: “I told her, I said: ‘Now I am not swearing, I do not laugh at Jesus. I’m not talking about God, and I don’t use dirty words on camera, but it is known if I am quite angry.’”Field

Changes in Lyrics and Initial Reactions

Parton praised Carpenter but acknowledged that the singer “could speak a little bad from time to time.”

In the original version of the song, Carpenter sings: “I beg you, don’t bother me, bastard“. However, for their collaboration, the lyrics were modified to: “I ask, don’t embarrass me like others.”

When they first announced their collaboration, Parton humorously remarked on meeting Carpenter, saying, “You will be so old.” The legend of “Jolene” later teased Carpenter about “dirty words” in her lyrics, leading to a cleaner version of “please, please” for their new duet.

“Thank you for letting me do this,” Parton expressed. Carpenter reciprocated, saying, “Thank you for you.”

Recent Personal Loss and New Music

The original version of “Please, please” reached number one in the UK and the US. It was recently nominated for “Song of the Year” at the Grammy 2025 but ultimately lost to “Wrong” by Kendrick Lamar.

Meanwhile, Parton recently made her first public appearance following the passing of her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, during the 40th anniversary of her theme park, Dollywood, in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

Earlier this month (March 4), Parton shared the heart-wrenching news that her husband had died at the age of 82. They were married for nearly 60 years.

Upon announcing Dean’s passing, Parton wrote in a brief statement: “Carl and I spent many wonderful years. Words cannot pay tribute to the love that we shared for more than 60 years. Thanks for your prayers and sympathy.”

Shortly after, she released a poignant new single, “If You Weren’t There,” in honor of her late husband and reflected on the significance he held in her life, as well as his role in shaping who she is today.
