DJ Khaled, City Girls, Trina, and More Deserve Their Own Streets in Miami

Miami-Dade Honors Hip-Hop Legends

In Miami-Dade County, iconic Hip-Hop Legends like DJ Khaled, City Girls, Trina, and Trick Daddy have been honored with streets named after them.

New Street Names in Liberty City

Last Wednesday (March 19), it was announced that the streets along 18th Avenue in Liberty City would bear names inspired by songs from some of Miami’s most famous rappers. Commissioner Keon Hardemon proposed this initiative to “encourage economic development in our community.”

“If you play this music for people who are from this area, they will be lit, as if it were the Fourth of July,” Hardemon stated (via NBC Miami). “The essence of this is… to inform people that this exists in the Miami-Dade district, and you must come and see.”

The renamed streets will honor 29 influential artists who played a crucial role in shaping Miami’s vibrant musical scene. For instance, Trick Daddy, DJ Khaled, Flo Rida, and Trina have been recognized with their own streets for their significant contributions to hip-hop.

Other street names, such as “Soul Ties Street” (Ball Greezy), “Post & Delete Street,” and “Big Money Money,” pay homage to local talents that continue to elevate Miami’s hip-hop culture.

Hardemon also suggested a name change for a terrace originally called “Grind with Me Terrace,” named after Pretty Ricky, but was rejected by Commissioner Eilin Higgins. She remarked: “I do not want to walk on a street where someone can tell me this without my permission.”

Interestingly, although the focus was initially on hip-hop stars, Soul and R&B legends Minnie Riperton and Betty Wright also received streets named in their honor. Check the full list below.
