Comedy Film Inspired by Green Day
The comedy film, inspired by Green Day, is currently in development.
According to reports, Diversity Live Nation Productions is working on a road traffic comedy titled New Year Rev featuring all three members of Green Day. The film is presently in production in Oklahoma.
Storyline and Cast
New Year Rev “is inspired by the early days of Green Day, documenting their experiences living and touring in a van.” It narrates the adventures of three friends traveling across the United States, mistakenly believing they will open for Green Day at a concert in Los Angeles.
Mason Thames, Kailr Koffman, and Ryan Faust star as a young group of friends embarking on a life-altering journey. Directed by Lee Kirk, the film also features Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey from The Office, alongside Ignacio Diaz-Silveo and Mark Ruffalo’s son, Kin Ruffalo.
In addition to Green Day, the film is produced by Ryan Croft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Productions. Currently, New Year Rev has not been assigned a release date.
Green Day’s Perspective
Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong shared his thoughts on the film with Diversity: “The rule of touring in a van is to drive all night without sleep, only to play a show for ten kids in a friend’s basement located 50 miles east of where you were just a moment ago. But you do it again the next day, and the day after that, because you’re doing this alongside your bandmates who become your family, and it’s nothing like what you once knew.”
Ryan Croft from Live Nation Productions added: “With incredible guidance from Green Day, New Year Rev portrays the journey of young artists chasing their dreams—long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying spirit of the scene shaping their travels. Featuring remarkable performances, this film is a tribute to the magic of live music.”
Rumors suggest the band is slated to headline Glastonbury 2025 and may perform at the festival this year on either Saturday, June 27, or Sunday, June 29. They are expected to tour Europe this summer prior to and following Glasto, with further speculation about them headlining a prominent farmer festival this year.
In January of last year, the group released their 14th album, “Saviors”. The album received a four-star review from NME, with Andrew Trendell calling it their “best” since “American Idiot”: “Saviors” is an act of defiance, delivered unapologetically; the band asserts: ‘We are still here, and we are still fucking around.’
