Dawn Robinson of Vogue Reveals She Lived in Her Car for Three Years

Don Robinson’s Journey

Don Robinson, the former singer of En Vogue, revealed that she has been living in her car for the past three years.

Sharing Her Experience

The co-founder of the R&B girl group shared the news in a candid video posted on her YouTube channel on Wednesday (March 12), which you can watch below.

“You guys, over the past three years, I lived in my car … I said this, about the hell, it turned out,” she shared. She explained that this choice of lifestyle was about self-discovery, stating, “This is not a history of sob, this is me finding out who I am, as a person and as a woman.”

Robinson elaborated that in 2020 she lived with her parents before relocating to Los Angeles, where she was offered a place by her former manager. However, that arrangement fell through, and ultimately, she spent eight months in a hotel while searching for an apartment.

She then explored alternative lifestyle options and discovered the appeal of “automotive life.” “I felt free,” she remarked. “It was like an endless trip on a hike. It felt just right.”

During this time, she faced the grief of losing her dog Max and expressed how much she missed her family. “If I had an apartment, I would,” she added. “But I wouldn’t trade what I’ve learned from this experience. I am proud of what I have achieved.”

Robinson was one of the founding members of En Vogue in 1989 alongside Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis, and Maxine Jones. They achieved tremendous success in the 90s with hits like “Don’t Let Go (Love),” “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It),” and “Hold On,” selling over 20 million records and earning seven Grammy nominations.

Since then, the group has remained active in various forms, although Robinson departed in 1997 shortly before the release of their third album “EV3.” The original lineup briefly reunited in 2005 and again in 2009 for a 20th-anniversary tour.
