David Schwimmer Urges Action Against Kanye West Over “Nazi” Remarks: “Silence Equals Complicity”

Schwimmer calls for action against Ye

Friends star David Schwimmer has urged for action to be taken against Kanye West for his offensive “Nazi” posts, asserting that “silence is complicity.”

Recent Controversies and Statements

The rapper, now known as Ye, made headlines last week with a series of controversial posts after returning to social media. In his response to previous anti-Semitic remarks, he attempted to apologize to the Jewish community while also making the shocking declaration “Nazi”.

Schwimmer responded to Ye’s comments by suggesting that social media users have a responsibility to act. Alongside a photo of Ye with the caption “I’M A NAZIR,” he remarked: “This is so 2022. We cannot stop the abnormal fanatic from the eruption of hatred, ignorant bile… But we can stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk.”

Referring to the CEO of the platform previously known as Twitter, Schwimmer stated: “Kanye West has 32.7 million subscribers on your platform, X. This is twice as many people as the number of existing Jews. His sick hateful speech leads to real violence against Jews.”

“I don’t know what is worse: the fact that he identifies as a Nazi (which implies that he aims to destroy all marginalized communities, including his own), or the lack of sufficient outrage to remove and ban him from all social networks at this moment. Silence is complicity.”

Additionally, his recent tirades on X included comments supporting Diddy and Chris Brown, with Ye encouraging the release of the former from prison amidst charges of sexual violence. He also claimed to have “dominance” over his wife, Bianca Tsaltsori, asserting her public appearance in a controversial outfit at the Grammy Awards was only due to his “approval.”

In later posts, Ye proclaimed “I love Hitler”, lauded Elon Musk as “the most lit person who has ever been on Twitter,” and alleged that everyone else was merely watching him.

The initial accusations of anti-Semitism surfaced in 2022 when he made a series of offensive comments on social media, leading to his accounts being suspended on Instagram and Twitter. Following this, he lost his lawyer, backing from a talent agency, and numerous partnerships with brands such as Balenciaga and Adidas, while he faced widespread condemnation from celebrities and politicians globally.

Subsequently, he expressed disbelief regarding the term anti-Semitism during an interview with News Nation, where he refused to apologize for comments made during an interview with Piers Morgan. In December 2022, he made further controversial remarks with extreme right commentator Gavin McInnes, suggesting that Jewish people should “forgive Hitler” and comparing pornography to the Holocaust.

In 2023, he ultimately issued an apology to the Jewish community, blaming alcohol for his comments the following year. Over the years, numerous lawsuits have been filed against him due to his remarks. One former employee claimed that the rapper stated the Jewish people were “working together to restrain him,” while another employee accused him of using anti-Semitic language in the workplace and praising Hitler inappropriately. Employees at TMZ also alleged that he praised Hitler and the Nazis during a 2018 interview.

Musk himself faced accusations regarding Nazi gestures during the Donald Trump inauguration event, where he made a hand gesture associated with Nazi salutes. Despite this, he did not refrain from condemning Nazism in his later comments regarding the controversy, describing the accusations as “dirty tricks” and expressing fatigue with the situation.
