Debut Book Announcement
Blur from Dave Rowntree is set to release his debut photography book 'Nobody You Know: Early Photographs of the Blur of Dave Rowntree' on September 9 through Hero, part of the Legend Times.
Capturing the Early Years
This well-bound book, with over 200 pages, has been edited by Miranda Soyer. It will document the formative years of Blur through Rowntree’s personal photographs taken with his Olympus OM-10 camera. The collection provides an intimate glimpse into the early days of the band, capturing candid moments between their professional commitments.
“The photographs I took depict the group right at the beginning of their career. They showcase what we did in the spaces between concerts, interviews, and photoshoots. We hung out, relaxed, traveled, ate, and especially in the early days, drank. These images reflect life in Blur during the initial years, before our records were released,” Rowntree shared. “It’s clear the band wasn’t working then, otherwise, I would have been, too. This was all the downtime.”
Rowntree joined the band in the late 1980s alongside Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon in Colchester, later joined by Alex James to complete the lineup. Since their formation, Blur has released nine studio albums and garnered five Brit Awards.
Beyond his work with Blur, Rowntree has explored various ventures, including managing Computer Animation Nanoman, working as a lawyer, advising the Labor District, contributing to the Beagle 2 Mars mission, and composing soundtracks for productions like the BBC’s “The Capture” and Netflix’s “One.” His solo album “Radio Songs” was released in 2023.
Rowntree will be signing copies of his book at Ruge Trade Denmark Street on September 10.
