Crowdfunder Launched to Rescue Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club

Saving A Community Hub

Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club in East London has initiated the Croudfander Fighting Fund to preserve its beloved venue.

The space has hosted various musical, comedy, and theater events, with many original performances taking place over the years. Recognized as a II-class listed building, it has legal certification as an official Kabaret Theater. However, this designation alone isn’t sufficient to safeguard it from imminent threats.

Founded by friends of the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club (Fobgwmc), this public group includes local residents, performers, players, programmers, and trade unionists.

Moreover, there is a stretch target of ÂŁ18,000, enabling FobGWMC to create a robust business plan with financial projections while covering consulting and accounting costs.

Contributors to the fund can receive rewards such as an A3 artist print from Lawrence Brand for donations over ÂŁ70, BGWMC Beer Mats for those donating over ÂŁ30, and merchandise for donations exceeding ÂŁ20.

Nick Kigan, the organizer of the Equity variety, shared in the press release: “Acquiring a community space of this scale is a significant challenge. We aim to be completely realistic about this. We believe that collaboration between the BGWMC community and Tower Hamlets advice can achieve this goal.

“It is crucial to preserve this unique cultural venue and enable it to continue serving the local Tower Hamlets community, the LGBTQ+ community, and London’s broader cultural fabric for generations to come. We are committed to establishing this case and ensuring that the cultural and social significance of the BGWMC is clear to all.”

Kigan further emphasized: “BGWMC stands as a vital part of London’s cultural heritage. It has been a catalyst for emerging artists and cultural workers, offering a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, and has more than a century of history as a public venue. It is imperative that we protect the BGWMC for future generations and allow its legacy to thrive.”
