Colin Rice Named Director of Marketing Catalog at Chrysalis Records

Colin Rice Joins Chrysalis Records

Chrysalis Records, a part of a group of companies, has appointed the former senior head of Sony, Colin Rice, as the director of Catalog Marketing.

Based in the London offices, Rice will report directly to James Midous, the senior vice president of marketing.

New Marketing Strategies

In his new role, which takes effect immediately, Rice will be responsible for developing marketing strategies for catalog artists both in the UK and internationally. He will work closely with the U.S. marketing team led by Ali Slavler.

Additionally, Rice will oversee the growth of the Chrysalis brand, focusing on a holistic view of the catalog and creating marketing strategies that encompass trend tracking, seasonal changes, and cultural moments, according to the company.

Prior to joining Chrysalis Records, Rice served as a senior international marketing manager at the Sony Music Commercial Music Group.

During his eight-year tenure, he managed international marketing and development for notable artists including Pink, Celine Dion, Jimi Hendrix, Primal Scream, and others.

Among his accomplishments at Sony, he achieved consistent international No. 1 hits for Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas across multiple territories and secured top-five global chart successes for posthumous albums from Prince and Leonard Cohen. His campaigns also highlighted cult albums such as The Clash’s London Calling (2019 – 40th anniversary), Pearl Jam’s Vs. (2023 – 30 years), and Primal Scream’s Screamadelica (2021 – 30th anniversary), along with various projects focusing on promotional strategies and seasonal optimization.

Colin began his career at Sanctuary Records as a Catalog Digital Manager before becoming head of music and label at WE7/Blinkbox Music, which was acquired by Tesco in 2012.

He also spent four years developing international business for the marketing label Union Square Music.

Chrysalis, one of the most influential and iconic labels in recorded music history, was relaunched as an active label in February 2020, six months after a deal was finalized between the New York-based reservoir and a blue cloak, revitalizing the Chrysalis music company’s diverse portfolio.

Founded in 1968, Chrysalis played a crucial role in breaking and nurturing some of the biggest artists of the 70s and 80s, including Jethro Tull, Billy Idol, Blondie, Pat Benatar, Huey Lewis and the News, Sinéad O’Connor, and more.
