Coldplay Announces New Visual Project
Coldplay has unveiled the visual project for their latest album, Moon Music, titled Film for the future.
Creative Collaboration
The project’s executive producer, Ben More, described the film—crafted by over 150 artists from 45 countries—as “a kaleidoscopic patchwork – a 44-minute multimedia tapestry.” A trailer for the film can be viewed below.
According to the press release, each artist received various pieces from “Moon Music” and was asked to create visuals based on them. There were no constraints or insights into the creations of other artists.
The world premiere will be streamed on YouTube on January 22, accompanied by special 360-degree screenings in Lightroom London, Manchester, and Seoul—tickets can be purchased here. Additionally, a fan site for film remixes, powered by Microsoft AI, will also debut here on January 22.
Each screening room will be equipped with “state-of-the-art audio technology and 11-meter-tall projections across four walls and floors, allowing fans to fully immerse themselves in a unique visual and audio experience.”
Director Mohr, who previously collaborated with Coldplay and Beyoncé in the 2016 film Anthem for the Weekend, expressed enthusiasm for the new project: “It was an absolute honor to view such an ambitious endeavor, collaborating with numerous talented animators and directors independently. The final film is truly remarkable, and I can’t wait for Coldplay fans to experience it.”
The band remarked: “We are incredibly thankful to all the wonderful artists who lent their talents to this film. They produced something stunning, and we are immensely proud of it.”
Film for the future was initially referenced on a car license plate in Coldplay’s 2019 album, Everyday Life. A portion of the project also surfaced in July 2024 as a lyric video for their single “feelslikeimfallinginlove.”
Additionally, the band’s Music Of The Spheres tour has become the biggest rock tour ever, recently continuing through Asia.
This summer, they will also embark on a UK tour, featuring 10 dates at London’s Wembley Stadium. For the complete list of tour dates, click here to purchase tickets.
In related news, frontman Chris Martin revealed to NME in 2021 that Coldplay plans to conclude with the release of their final album in 2025. He later expanded on these comments, stating that the band aims to complete their discography after 12 albums.
In an exclusive interview with NME last year, he elaborated on the band’s upcoming timeline for writing new music. He remarked: “Currently, since around 2008, if something resonates with me as a song or a compelling idea and feels authentic, we pursue it regardless of outside opinions.”
“This will indeed be 12 albums, but we might release it a bit later. There’s also a musical involved. (This will be) album number 11, but it’s likely to come out after album 12 due to the lengthy animation process for musicals.”
“Our final single from this album is titled ‘All My Love.’ This is the latest single. We have a theme song as well and then an album simply named Coldplay, which will be the last one. I estimate it will be released a year later—I’m quite certain of it.”
