Clown Discusses “Lost” Album
Clown has expressed his thoughts on the much-anticipated “lost” album Look Outside Your Window, clarifying that it's “not even close” to a typical Slipknot sound.

The album was created by founding member and percussionist Shawn Crahan, alongside Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, and Jim Root, during the sessions for their 2008 album All Hope Is Gone. Unfortunately, expectations for its release have not been met, with only one track released from the sessions: the bonus track “All Hope Is Gone” “Til We Die”.
What Fans Can Expect
Taylor, Root, and Clown have hinted at a release in recent years. Recently, Clown shared with NME that the long-awaited album was no longer in his hands, and management was preparing for its final steps toward release.
In a new interview with Notfest, Clown elaborated on what listeners can expect, confirming that it is far from a Slipknot-style album.
“It was never a Slipknot album. Not while it was being created, not while I had it in my possession for 10 years, and certainly not when it gets released,” he stated.
Reflecting on the writing sessions for “All Hope Is Gone,” Clown reminisced about the band’s playful creative process and the fun moments during those times. “We would hear someone approaching and joke around, shooting ‘missiles’ at the producer—those moments made the music special.”
Clown mentioned that if the music could have fit in the Slipknot repertoire, they would have brought it to the studio. “Nothing about it resonated with what Paul, Joey, or Corey wanted to explore,” he added. “I need people to understand this is not Slipknot. Not even close.”
Reflections on Paul Gray
When asked if any of the material was influenced by the late bassist Paul Gray, Clown expressed the complexities of that time. “It’s hard to explain. We had a dear friend going through tough times, which was unpredictable and affected our creativity,” he recounted.
These sentiments reflect the challenges Gray faced leading up to his tragic passing in 2010, battling addiction. His widow Brenna later shared that his final weeks were engulfed in a haze of substance abuse.
Regarding Gray’s possible involvement in Look Outside Your Window, Clown stated, “That’s a tough question. If someone wants to take part, they must act in a certain way, and perhaps Paul wasn’t able to fully do that.”
As of now, the exact release date for Look Outside Your Window has not been set, although it is anticipated to arrive in the first half of 2025.
Rumors about the project surfaced back in 2019, with Crahan indicating the band’s readiness to release new material. However, the journey to its completion has been rocky, with multiple delays and adjustments along the way.
In November, guitarist Jim Root expressed frustration about the delays, while Clown reflected on his earlier comments promising a 2023 release that did not materialize. “It’s been a challenge to align everything,” he admitted.
Clown concluded by assuring, “What I can share is that the final artwork has been shown to Corey, and management is moving forward. There’s a plan in place, and it’s in motion.”
During the interview, Clown also discussed the band’s recent 25th-anniversary tour and hinted at exciting new material coming soon. “We have a dynamic energy as a band right now, and we’re likely to have several albums in the pipeline,” he noted.
