Claudio Sanchez releases new album
Coheed And Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez has unveiled a fresh album of covers, featuring interpretations of tracks by Taylor Swift and The Smiths.
Details about “Claudio Covers”
The frontman unexpectedly dropped a record titled “Claudio Covers” on streaming platforms, with the album oddly named “Coheed And Cambria” even though the other members of the renowned progressive rock band seemingly did not participate.
The eight-track collection showcases Sanchez’s renditions of Swift’s “Welcome To New York” and Morrissey and Marr’s “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out,” along with The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” and Bastille and the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Pompeii.”
It also features “Your Love” by The Outfield, “Under The Milky Way” by The Church, and “Sister Christian” by Night Ranger. Check out the complete album below.
Reflecting on his choice to include the Swift track, Sanchez explained: “My decision to include ‘Welcome to New York’ on this collection goes both ways. First, in 2014, my son was born in Brooklyn Hospital (Welcome to New York, Atlas!)… and when he found out about this Swifty classic, we listened to it even more than when it was first released, and if you know my wife, that’s a lot.”
“The other side of my choice… I love New York. With so many people leaving the city in uncertainty, my family made the decision to put deeper roots here. There is no place in the world like this, and there is no place where I would rather spend my free time. This place deserves all its praises and songs. Perhaps one day it will appear in me… but until then I will have to do this.”
Upcoming projects
The album arrives ahead of the release of Coheed And Cambria’s forthcoming 11th studio album, “The Father Of Make Believe,” set to release on March 14, which has already been teased through the singles “Searching For Tomorrow” and “Blind Side Sonny.” This record will be the third installment in the Vaxis series, beginning with 2018’s Vaxis – Act I: The Unheavenly Creatures and concluding with 2022’s Vaxis – Act II: A Window of the Waking Mind.
The band will promote the album’s release by headlining the 2000Trees Festival at Upcote Farm in Cheltenham in July 2025, sharing the stage with Kneecap, Million Dead, Taking Back Sunday, and Alexisonfire among others.
This follows the SS Neverender cruise ship festival, a five-day journey featuring bands alongside Coheed, who will perform “two unique” sets. They are also slated to appear at Tool In The Sand, a festival organized by prog metal band Tool, in the Dominican Republic.
