Details of the lawsuit
According to court documents accessible from Katya Stone, Melvin Moore, who records under the name 4Rest, has filed a lawsuit against Bailey, Columbia Records, Sony Music, and Parkwood Entertainment.
Moore claims that three of Bailey’s songs—“Loved Ones,” “You Can Do the Same,” and “The Same Underwear”—were “obtained from intimate and real situations,” reflecting his relationships, emotions, and personal struggles. The lawsuit states that “Moore’s significant emotional and creative investments in the tracks were not properly recognized or compensated.”
As of the time of writing, representatives for Bailey and the other accused parties had not commented on the lawsuit.

Seeking restitution
On Thursday, February 20, the lawsuit filed in New York asserts that Moore is seeking $5 million (ÂŁ4 million) in damages for the song, along with $150,000 (ÂŁ119,000) for willful infringement.
Moore, who has recorded with artists like Chris Brown and Robin Thicke, expressed to Katya Stone: “My journey as a songwriter has been one of tremendous struggle and perseverance. I faced homelessness for two years, only to achieve homeownership 17 years later. This experience has shaped my resilience. But even after overcoming these obstacles and achieving success, I still fight for fundamental justice in how I am compensated for my work.”
He added, “Many songwriters, producers, and artists are often underpaid and not respected; their talents are exploited under false promises of opportunity. This cycle must end. It is time for the industry to recognize the value of creative individuals who breathe life into music and compensate them appropriately. This battle is for all of us.”
“Trouble in Paradise” is Bailey’s second solo album, released in August 2024. She spent a considerable amount of time in Saint Lucia recording most of the album, which she described to Nylon as “a celebration of adulthood, marking her emergence as a woman who enjoys life and doesn’t take it too seriously.”
