Insights into the heartfelt rap track
The sincere rap song, crafted by Lucas and Leo Son, showcases Smith openly delivering lyrics that touch on trauma, ego, and the actor’s inner child, while Lucas offers a contrasting perspective centered on success.
“I'm going to have to face all this shit that I've been running away from/ Maybe it has to do with where I come from/ I went through trauma that I thought I could recover from/I had regrets, some of them you heard about.” Smith reflects on his past through his verses.
The music video’s animation, produced by Cartuna Cartoon and directed by Lucas and Matthew Bordenave, illustrates animated renditions of Smith and Lucas as they navigate challenges like being marooned at sea amidst a storm, plummeting from a building, and scaling mountains in a desert landscape.
Smith’s ongoing musical journey
“Tantrum” is the fourth single Smith has released in 2024, following “Work Of Art,” which featured Russ and his son Jaden, “You Can Make It” with the Sunday Service Choir, Chandler Moore, and Kirk Franklin, and “Light Em Up” alongside Sean Paul.
Despite Smith’s active music releases, there has yet to be any announcement regarding a new album following his 2005 project, Lost And Found.
In related news, Smith was recently confirmed as one of the artists set to perform at the Positiv festival in France next year. He is scheduled to take the stage on July 31st at the Roman Theater of Orange.
This announcement follows his recent signing with the music label Slang, which is part of the entertainment company Influence Media, led by Rene McLean.
Additionally, Smith’s return to the music scene included a performance of “You Can Make It” at the BET Awards in June, a guest appearance with J Balvin at Coachella in April, and a surprise show at the Spanish boxing event La Velada Del Año 4.
Earlier in February, he also took the stage with DJ Jazzy Jeff during the Grammy Salute to Hip-Hop’s 50th Anniversary celebration.
