In conjunction with the holiday, Tyler is marking the 15th anniversary of his debut studio album, Bastard, released in 2009. “Thank you to everyone who has listened to anything over the years,” he expressed to fans on Twitter/X.
“I was in a completely different zone both musically and personally, but was determined to be who I am today,” he added. “Full of gratitude because it all came true. Earl and I need to do ASSMILK; I performed ODD TODDLEERS on the main stage at Coachella, how wild?!? this album was made at ages 16-18. what a time. Thank you!”
At the end of October, Tyler unveiled his seventh album, Chromakopia, which received three stars from NME.
“There is beauty in the chaos of (the album)—the sensibility of “Hey Jane,” the infectious hip-hop of “Thought I Was Dead,” the swelling cacophony of horns and percussion on “I Killed You.” A less frenetic approach might have improved the overall listening experience,” the review noted.
In November, Tyler shared that he was working to get copyright violations lifted so fans could fully engage with the album on social media.
Meanwhile, Lamar’s 2024 album “GNX” received top ratings from NME. “Lamar channels what can be interpreted as hate and negativity into a teachable moment, prompting you to connect with the purest emotion known to man: love. In a year filled with so much toxicity, Kendrick Lamar offers the antidote with (the album),” the critique stated.
The surprise album climbed to number 12 on NME‘s list of the 50 best albums of 2024, recognized as a “sharp and precise” collection.
Additionally, Lamar’s notorious diss track “Not Like Us” narrowly missed the top spot on NME‘s list of the 50 Best Songs of 2024, noted for transforming “clever, meticulously researched character assassinations into a furious, up-tempo club hit produced by DJ Mustard.”
