The song is set to feature in the upcoming animated series Devil May Cry, which will premiere on Netflix next Thursday, April 3.
Lyric Highlights
In the opening verse, frontwoman Amy Lee expresses the atmosphere with lines: “Hide before the opening of the gateways / Can we just lie here until it all ends? / I hear the violence go / turn and runs inside / you build your walls, but you cannot forget hatred / you hide …“
The track then erupts into a powerful, dramatic choir, proclaiming: “Cursed to finally meet you in the afterlife.” She then pleads: “Save me from this pain and fill the hole inside / You wonder why I’m all out of tears to cry / Today I’m not afraid to die.”
Co-written with Liver and Alex Siver from Maco, and also including contributions from Seaver and Nick Raskulinecz, “Populative Life” is accompanied by an official Devil May Cry music video. Watch it here:

About the Series
The upcoming Netflix series, created by ADI Shankar, adapts the popular Capcom franchise of the same name.
The description states: “Ominous forces in the game open the portal between the realms of man and demon. At the center of all this is Dante, an orphaned demon hunter, unaware of the fact that the fate of both worlds rests upon him.”
According to a press release, the “alternative version” of EvanesCens’ “afterlife” will appear multiple times throughout the new show. It was also noted that the band is primarily focused on creating new music this year.
Their fifth and most recent studio album, The Bitter Truth, was launched in 2021.
In a recent interview with Loud, Lee remarked that EvanesCens is “happily deep in the creative process on the new album and a couple of other side projects, including ‘afterlife’.”
She noted that this Devil May Cry track marks the band’s “first time back in the studio since recording ‘Bitter Truth’.” Lee added, “It’s super fun and I’m very grateful for this opportunity.”
Meanwhile, EvanesCens is set to open for My Chemical Romance, Metallica, and Halsey later this year. They are also scheduled to perform at the Life is Beautiful Festival 2025 in Louisville, Kentucky, this September.

Speaking with NME at the end of 2022, Lee conveyed that creating The Bitter Truth was “very cathartic” for the band. “It was so good for our souls,” she stated. “We had so much to express and discuss.”
Looking ahead, when asked about future plans, she told NME: “I try not to set too many specific plans – it just unfolds. When you sit at the piano, you simply let it flow. But yes, I want to create new music with this exciting energy we have as a band.”
