Hints of Future Releases

The English-Nigerian rapper hasn’t released a studio album since “NO THANK YOU” in December 2022, but with this latest single announcement, she appears to be indicating that more music might come in 2025.

On X on Monday (December 30), Simz shared a link to the song and added, “See you in 25 minutes.”

Song Details and Collaborations

The two-minute song, produced by SHYY and Rigas, features an acoustic guitar loop and a subtly processed vocal sample. In the track, Simz reflects on her life and career while rapping: Neighbors can’t believe how a black woman got this far / But they still appreciate it, I was chasing dangerous thrills.

NME awarded NO THANK YOU four stars in 2022, stating: “NO THANK YOU’s quiet, low-key release draws parallels to Kendrick Lamar’s 2016 release Untitled Unmastered, a series of leftovers from his To Pimp A Butterfly sessions.” The release showcased a certain looseness and freedom, and, like Lamar, the level-headed Simz had something important to convey. With this new single, the case for Simz being recognized as a contemporary great is only bolstered.

While Simz hasn’t released a project in 2024, she has remained active by contributing to Coldplay’s single “We Pray,” Sampha’s “Satellite Business 2.0,” and Wretch 32’s return track “Black And British.”
