Check Out BDRMM’s Bold New Single “Lake Disappointment”

New Single from BDRMM

BDRMM has released a new single titled “Disappointment on the Lake” – you can listen to it below.

This track is the final preview of their upcoming third studio album, ‘Microtonic,’ set to launch on February 28 through the Mogwai Rock Action label (Pre-order here).

Exploring New Sounds

Following their tracks “2024,” “John On the Tiold,” and “Infinity” released last month, BDRMM’s latest offering showcases a deeper exploration of their electronic sound, presented with a fresh edge.

“Disappointment on the Lake” comes after the band decided to explore dance music with their recent works, inspired by support from Daniel Avery and their participation in the Rwin collective at London Field Day.

Singer and guitarist Ryan Smith described the new single as “probably the most aggressive and exciting song we’ve created,” adding: “I remember sending it to Alex (our producer), and I’ve never seen him so thrilled by a track.”

“It was a dream to work on. Amidst the melancholy of the record, there’s a significant amount of anger. We express this by saying ‘fuck you’ to those who have wronged us,” he remarked.

The song is accompanied by a striking and bizarre official music video, filmed by Joe and Scott Hero. Reflecting on the visual experience, Smith noted: “I will always cherish the memory of shooting the video.”

“We went to an abandoned warehouse in Sheffield, teamed up with a fantastic production crew, and built our own dystopian marketplace (with a firm direction from our bosses at Microtonic).”

He continued: “It was tough standing in the cold for 12 hours in hospital gowns, but it was worth it. No pain, no gain (we’re still waiting for the gain).” You can view it above.

BDRMM will showcase their upcoming album Microtonic during a UK and European tour next month, including a performance at the Electric Ballroom in Camden, London on March 19. Get the remaining tickets here (United Kingdom).

“Microtonic” has recently been highlighted among NME‘s most anticipated album releases of 2025.

In a 2023 interview with NME, BDRMM discussed their transition into a more electronic sound in their second studio album “I Don’t Know.” “We have the confidence to explore new ideas now,” bassist Jordan Smith stated at the time.

“On this second album, the best aspect was having our initial sound established, which served as a platform to think about our future direction and the concepts we wanted to explore. I believe part of it is that we can now afford more equipment.”

Guitarist Joe Vickers added: “This record demonstrates our confidence in delving into the music we love. It’s a cliché that we stepped back from guitars, but I find it exhausting to keep playing the same riffs over and over, like those in Krautrock.”

In their four-star review of “I Don’t Know,” NME remarked: “This is a defining project for the band that truly raises the bar for the entire British scene.”
