Charlie XCX Joins Cathy Yan’s Upcoming Film
Charlie XCX has been cast in the role of Gallery owner for Cathy Yan’s upcoming film (Birds of Prey).
As reported by Deadline, the “Brat” singer is part of a star-studded ensemble that includes Jenna Ortega, Natalie Portman, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Sterling K. Brown, Zach Galifianakis, Daniel Brühl, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The film centers around a gallery owner who is desperate enough to conspire to sell a corpse at Art Basel Miami. Currently in pre-production, filming is set to commence later this year.
Additional Projects and Collaborations
This news follows XCX’s recent casting in Sacrifice, the English-language debut by French director Romain Gavras. She will appear alongside Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa), Chris Evans (Avengers: Endgame), Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), and Ambika Mod (One Day).
Details regarding her character in the film, which reportedly filmed in Greece and Bulgaria last month, have not yet been disclosed. Included in the supporting cast is Swedish rapper Yung Lean, who is making his film debut and has collaborated with XCX and Robyn on a remix of her song “360.”
XCX currently has seven screen projects lined up, including a film by Gregg Araki titled I Want Your Sex and a graphic novel adaptation, 100 Nights of the Hero, featuring Emma Corrin (Deadpool and Wolverine) and Maika Monroe (Long Legged).
Brat Album Success and Upcoming Tours
This comes on the heels of her doppio duty as performer and host on Saturday Night Live in November, where she showcased tracks from her latest album and garnered acclaim from fans for her comedic talents and screen presence following her performance in a skit with Adele.
Her culturally significant sixth album, Brat, released in June, was lauded as album of the year by NME. As a cultural phenomenon, the Brat album is described as an exceptional record that stands out in its marketing and music, further establishing its significance in modern pop music.
“As a songwriter and lyricist, Charli has spent much of her career oscillating between the poles of intolerable attitude and naked vulnerability. Brat moves the scale with ease, delivering bulletproof fireworks that remain achingly human. This album is not only Charlie’s pinnacle but also a new benchmark for contemporary pop music,” noted NME.
As her summer tour for Brat looks to return in 2025, Charli has been confirmed as the headliner for Parklife next year. Additionally, the 360 artist recently attended London’s LIDO Festival, where a spectacular performance awaits.
She is also scheduled to perform two outdoor shows in Belfast and Dublin, will take the stage at Coachella 2025, and headline at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Porto. Moreover, she announced a US tour set for April and May.
