Tate Makray’s Memorable Performances
Tate Makray performed “Sports Car” and “Dear God” Saturday evening on the air yesterday (March 1). Check this below.
This marked the second appearance of the Canadian pop star as a musical guest, following her performance of breakthrough hits “Eagerly” and “Grave” at the show in 2023.
New Album and Live Appearance
Now, after the release of her new album “So Loade What What,” she returned to perform two songs from the LP. She joined the episode that also featured Mike Mayers posing as a chainsaw, who owned Elon Musk during the preparation for the recent meeting of US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
McRae appeared between the parodies to deliver a live performance of “Sports Car,” showcasing her signature high-octane choreography as she danced with a crowd of reporters in the style of “Thriller,” gradually approaching her. Later, she sang a cut version of “Dear God.” Check both performances below.

Comparisons and Reviews
Last month, McRae spoke about the comparisons between her and Britney Spears, stating that she finds them “flattering and terrible.” She added: “This is such a crazy statement, because no one can compare with Britney Spears. It’s like comparing someone to Michael Jackson! This is a plan!”
In a four-star review of “So Close to What,” NME noted that the producers of McRae (ONEREPUBLIC frontman Ryan Tedder and Kylbox Kyliber Lostboy Minoga) “raise fresh, club-ready shocks with glossy fillers.”
It continued: “Tracks like ‘Miss Armstilia’ recall the sounds of Ciara and Pjuskate, while ‘I Know Love’ and ‘Means that I Care’ evoke early Rihanna’s dance hall vibe. The ‘Renewable Door,’ a passionate ballad about toxic relationships, offers one of the more experimental tracks reminiscent of Britney Spears’ album in the zone.”
Further in the review, it said: “The result is a standout collection of bop that gives McRae room to grow in the future. It’s magnificent in sultry and self-assured moments, but ‘So Close to What’ proves she has many shades in her color palette.”
“So Close to What” follows McRae’s second studio album “Later.” In a four-star LP review, NME observed: “McRae is clearly still grappling with her ambitions. ‘Think Later,’ however, contains enough intrigue to suggest that this is the artist’s work, finally honing her personality, dancing and sparkling throughout.”
In other news, the singer recently joined Troye Sivan on stage for a collaborative performance at the Swan and Charlie XCX joint show in Los Angeles, where they performed “You,” her track with the singer “Reza.”
Next month, McRae will embark on an 80-day world tour with shows and festivals across South America, North America, Europe, and the UK. You can find tickets here for the British show and here for the American leg. Find the full list of tour dates here.
