The legendary masked metallers started a US tour back in August and have performed a series of international dates, culminating with several shows in the UK.

During their London stop, they played the first of two consecutive nights at The O2, delivering tracks that hadn’t been performed there in decades.

“I’m going to tell you something without any sarcasm or irony, and I say it from the bottom of my heart: Slipknot is home,” frontman Corey Taylor expressed to the audience, reminiscing about the band’s history with London.

“The first thing I want to tell you is how grateful we are, how much we appreciate and how much we love each and every one of you here in this building,” he continued. “25 years ago we released our very first Slipknot album, and a lot of people around the world really gravitated towards us, but no one embraced us like this damn city and this damn country. That’s why London, England will always be Slipknot’s home away from home.”

Set Highlights and Special Moments

As demonstrated in other performances on the Here Comes The Pain Tour, the band provided a “brief warning” that they would not be performing any material beyond their self-titled debut album from 1999.

The set commenced with hits like “(sic)”, “Eyeless”, “Wait And Bleed”, “Get This”, and “Eeyore”, before turntable artist Sid Wilson delivered an electronic remix of “Tattered & Torn”.

Additional tracks from their earlier catalog included “Me Inside”, “Liberate”, “Purity”, “Prosthetics”, “No Life”, and “Only One”, with an encore featuring “Spit It Out” and “Only One” “Ascent.”

The night’s finale included an extended rendition of “Scissors” – marking its first live performance in the UK capital since 1999. “The first and last time we played this song in London was 25 years ago,” Taylor informed the audience. “Are you ready to come with us to a very dark place?”

Speaking to NME about his plans for this tour in December 2023, Sean “The Clown” Crahan mentioned: “After 25 years of crafting seven albums, we’ve given ourselves the liberty to do whatever we desire. We do what we want, as much as we want, when we want and how we want. I’m ready to transition from what was and step into the world I envision.”

“We’re going back to basics,” he added. “I’m excited to engage with everyone intensely again! I’m looking forward to performing for a crowd of 100, or even 500 people. We want to play in front of 500 people, but there are many factors that make this unfeasible. We must prioritize safety at this stage.”

The 2024 leg of the Here Comes The Pain tour continues tonight (December 21) with the second of two dates at London’s O2. Slipknot will then resume touring in 2025. Get your tickets here.

Earlier this week, Slipknot’s clown spoke to NME and shared updates regarding the band’s long-anticipated “lost” album, Look Outside Your Window.

The album was created by founding member and percussionist (real name Shawn Crahan) alongside Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, and Jim Root during the production of their 2008 album, All Hope Is Gone. The band has been hinting at its release in recent years, though nothing official has come to fruition as of yet.

“I mentioned (to NME last year) it was supposed to happen in 2024, and I’ve been doing everything possible to make it happen this year,” he said. “What I can confirm is that two days ago I shared the final illustration with Corey. It’s on track, but unfortunately due to the holiday season and the existing business constraints, I cannot reschedule it for this year.

“However, I assure you, it’s out of my hands now. Progress is happening, finances have been allocated, and there is a plan in place. Management has control over it, and it will be released.”

Recently in another NME interview, Clown reflected on Slipknot’s plans for upcoming material.

“Eloy (Casagrande, drummer) is a part of the band, and there’s a fascinating dynamic among the nine of us right now,” he noted. “A lot is happening, and we likely have several albums in the pipeline. I’m completely open with you: it feels like a weight has been lifted.”
