Forest Fires Impacting the Event
The Grammy ceremony proceeded yesterday (February 2) despite Los Angeles, the traditional venue, grappling with five simultaneous forest fires. These blazes have forced the evacuation of over 150,000 residents and resulted in the destruction of countless homes and businesses, along with tragic fatalities.
The opening of the show featured the 1983 All-Star Classic Track, with artists including Brad Paisley, Saint-Vincent, Sheryl Crow, Dawes, Brittani Howard, and John Legend gracing the stage.
The lyrics to the song were slightly altered to convey a more sincere message rather than the original sarcasm. Check out the performance video below.

Artists Affected by Fires
Daes Taylor Goldsmith was among many musicians impacted by the forest fires. His home was destroyed, but he and his wife Mandy Moore managed to escape safely. His brother, Dawson Griffin Goldsmith, also lost his home in the Outona fire.
The devastating fires began on January 7 and have since destroyed thousands of homes, claiming at least 29 lives. Notable artists including Jhené Aiko, Madlib, Diane Warren, Harry Mack, Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith, and Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles have also lost their homes.
Last month, members of the Los Angeles music community spoke with NME about the severe damage caused by the ongoing fires, which continue to affect numerous locations, studios, and artists.
Singer, rapper, and producer Jared Evan, originally from New York but residing in Los Angeles for the past few years, shared with NME his admiration for the city’s “beautiful” spirit of community.
“I know people who have lost nearly everything,” he said. “I’ve witnessed tremendous unity and support, both from the music industry and everyday citizens of this city.”
“Having grown up in New York, my point of reference for situations like this was 9/11. No matter how dark or negative the situation, you saw people from all walks of life coming together to help one another. I truly feel that same atmosphere of beauty right now in Los Angeles.”
In other Grammy news, Beyoncé won the Album of the Year award, becoming the first black woman to achieve this milestone, while Chappell Roan received the title of “Best New Artist” and issued a bold acceptance speech advocating for better protections for emerging artists.
She stated: “I promised myself that if I ever won a Grammy and stood here in front of the most influential people in music, I would demand that the labels making millions from artists provide fair wages, healthcare options, and support for developing artists.”
