In addition to her charming surprise appearance at St Pancras this week, Laufey also made her debut in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on Tuesday (December 17).
These events come ahead of her performance on The Graham Norton Show during the Christmas special, which airs tomorrow night on BBC One (December 20). Below, you can view the Live Lounge set.
Recent Accomplishments
For Laufey, the performance at St Pancras and her BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge appearance follow her win for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the Grammy Awards for her second studio album, Bewitched, released earlier this year.
In a five-star review, NME called it “confident and musically ambitious, blending jazz, pop, and contemporary classical composition.”
“The Icelandic-Chinese star’s second album, Bewitched, is captivating in its own beautiful and unique way,” the review stated. “The rich orchestral arrangements and her virtuosic musicianship (Multi-definator is an accomplished cellist who studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston) fully support her Gen Z response.”
In an interview with NME last year for The Cover, Laufey expressed her ambition to introduce jazz to a wider audience. “I always told my mom, I remember when I was 11 years old in the car, ‘I want to do for jazz music what Taylor Swift did for country music,’” she shared. “Every day, with every little achievement, I feel like I’m getting closer to my goal of bringing jazz back to my generation.”
