New Avicii footage released
Recently, previously unreleased footage of Avicii has surfaced ahead of an anticipated Netflix documentary titled Avicii – I’m Tim.
Documentary overview
The film chronicles the life of Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, up until his tragic passing in 2018 at just 28 years old. The Swedish DJ and producer rose to fame in the electronic dance music scene during the 2010s, and the documentary has been created with the support of Bergling’s parents.
“When I decided that he would be the one to tell this story, I thought that maybe this is how I could be close to him,” remarked the film’s director, Henrik Burman. Billboard. “Maybe this is how I can meet him.”
As its release approaches today (December 31), Netflix has shared a snippet from the documentary, showcasing never-before-seen footage of the producer recording in the studio. Take a look below.
Earlier this year, his family published a picture book titled Avicii: The Life and Music of Tim Bergling, which includes photographs capturing the musician throughout his career.
Reflections on loss
His father, Claes Bergling, expressed his feelings about the loss in an interview with BBC: “I miss him every minute. Of course, I talk to him every day. But I admit, I get angry with him sometimes. Why did you do this? Why did you leave us?”
Shortly after his passing, his family released a statement indicating that he had taken his own life. “Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions,” they shared. “A highly successful perfectionist who traveled frequently and worked at a pace that was overwhelmingly stressful. When he stopped touring, he sought balance in his life to find happiness and create the music he loved most.”
“He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, and Happiness. He couldn’t go on any longer. He sought peace. Tim was not suited to the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who adored his fans but avoided the limelight. Tim, you will always be cherished and profoundly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive.”
In the weeks leading up to his death, he was known to be working on new music, including sessions with songwriter and producer Joe Janiak in Los Angeles.
In February, a new Avicii remix titled “Beautiful Drug” was released. This track was originally composed and released by the Zac Brown Band, and Avicii’s remix had been “in storage” for nine years.
