Jack Antonoff hosted the 10th edition of an intimate, star-studded fundraising concert for the Coalition of Allies, the nonprofit he established with his sister Rachel, dedicated to supporting at-risk LGBTQ+ youth, at the NYU Skirball Center in New York City.

Performances and Highlights

To kick off the evening, Antonoff was joined by his former band Steel Train and entertained the audience with his songs “Kill Monsters In The Rain” and “Bullet”. Following this, Andrew Dost, also a founding member of The Ally Coalition and Antonoff’s bandmate in Fun, took over to perform two songs titled “Cucumber” and “Universal Themes,” which will feature on the upcoming Metal Bubble Trio album releasing next year.

Claude performed for the third consecutive time at the Ally Coalition talent show and recounted meeting Dost as teenagers at the Interlochen Academy of the Arts, where he was her teacher. “The first thing I asked him was if he could introduce me to Jack Antonoff,” she shared, joking, “I hope one day I meet Jack Antonoff.”

They then performed their new song “You Sure Know How To Make Me” with assistance from their friend Hank Haven. Soon after, Rick Antonoff—Jack’s father—joined the musicians onstage for a duet performance of their 2020 song, “Soft Spot.”

New York natives Laundry Day also graced the stage, performing a new song. “I feel like a young nephew at a cool adult Christmas party,” expressed drummer and keyboardist Sawyer Nunez.

Next was Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates, who invited Brooklyn singer-songwriter Liam Benzvi to collaborate on a stripped-down version of the band’s track “Underwater Boi” from their 2021 album Glow On.

Bleachers followed and thrilled fans with their hits “Goodmorning” and “91.” To revitalize the crowd, they then played an acoustic rendition of “Modern Girl” before welcoming Wolf and Phish’s Trey Anastasio for a heartfelt acoustic cover of Rufus and Chaka Khan’s “Tell Me Something Good.” Afterward, the band and Wolf performed “Soup” from her 2024 album Big Ideas.

Once Wolf exited the stage, Anastasio and Bleachers covered Mitski’s poignant song “My Love Is Mine All Mine,” with the legendary guitarist taking lead vocals and delivering a bright and soothing guitar solo midway through. They then played “Me Before You” featuring Anastasio on lead guitar, followed by a tender performance of “Chinatown.” Rachel Zegler then joined them for “Man Of The House,” a piece co-written by Antonoff and Ryan Beaty for the new Broadway revival of Romeo + Juliet, in which Zegler stars alongside Keith Connor.

Afterwards, Antonoff and the team delivered a folk version of “I Wanna Get Better,” adopting a Bob Dylan-inspired vocal style. “Eat to your heart’s content, Timothée Chalamet,” Antonoff quipped after the song, referencing the actor’s current role depicting a legendary folk icon in the film Complete Unknown.

Special Guest Sabrina Carpenter

After some suspense regarding the next surprise guest, Antonoff introduced “The One and Only Sabrina Carpenter” as she took the stage. “She’s real,” someone in the crowd exclaimed, to which Carpenter replied, “Did you just say, ‘She’s real?’ I truly hope this is accurate.”

She continued: “Thank you so much, Jack, for having me. Guys, I’ve listened to everything you have, and I feel very fortunate to be here. I want to perform a song that I wrote with Sir Jack, reflecting on the idea that ‘There are plenty of fish in the sea,’ which is a big fat lie. No, it’s not that grim; the song is titled ‘Slim Pickins.’

She then delivered a jubilant rendition of her Grammy-nominated track “Please, Please, Please.” To conclude the evening, Antonoff expressed his view that “Christmas songs aren’t all cheerful,” noting, “Some Christmas songs feign happiness, but at their core, they offer hope,” before capping off the eventful night with a performance by Bleachers of the poignant yet festive song “Merry Christmas, Please Don’t Call.”

2024 marked the Ally Coalition’s most successful year yet, raising nearly $450,000 to support at-risk LGBTQ+ youth. You can visit here to purchase their merchandise designed by Rachel Antonoff, with all proceeds benefiting LGBTQ youth, and here to make a donation to this vital cause.
