Carrie Underwood’s Upcoming Performance
Carrie Underwood is set to take the stage at Donald Trump’s second inauguration later this month.
Trump will be inaugurated as president in Washington, D.C. on January 20, 2025, and Grammy-winning artist Carrie Underwood is confirmed to be the musical guest. A representative confirmed to Axios that she will perform “America the Beautiful.”
Underwood’s Statement on the Event
“I love our country and am proud to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood stated in a report by the Associated Press. “I am honored to answer this call at a time when we must all come together in a spirit of unity and look to the future.”
Underwood, who gained fame on American Idol and is renowned for hits like “Inside Your Heaven” and “Jesus,” previously mocked Trump during the 2017 Country Music Awards in a skit with Brad Paisley. The duo performed a revamped version of her hit “Before He Cheats,” using lyrics that humorously referenced Trump’s unpredictable Twitter behavior at the time: “Funny to watch, yeah that’s for sure / Until little Rocket Man starts a nuclear war.”
Additional Performers at the Inauguration
Victor Willis, lead singer of the Village People, has also announced that the group will “take part in the inaugural activities” of Trump. “We know some of you won’t like this, but we believe music should be performed without regard for politics,” he stated in a message shared on Facebook. “Our song ‘YMCA’ is a global anthem that we hope will help unite the country after a turbulent and divided campaign in which our preferred candidate lost.”
According to the Associated Press, other performers announced for the inauguration include Trump’s favorite country singer Lee Greenwood and opera singer Christopher Macchio.
Trump’s 2017 inauguration featured performances from the Rockettes, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and America’s Got Talent singer Jackie Evancho. Notably, Aretha Franklin sang at Obama’s first inauguration in 2009, while Beyoncé and Kelly Clarkson performed at his second in 2013.
