Director and Cast Insights

Director Scott Cooper, along with movie star Jeremy Allen White, portrays the singer in the early ’80s, focusing on the personal and professional circumstances that shaped his landmark work from 1982, Nebraska. Although the film’s release date has yet to be announced, it is anticipated to hit theaters later this year.

In a conversation with Variety’s Awards Chain Podcast, he elaborated on how the project came to fruition. “They pitched this idea, and I said, ‘It sounds like fun,’” Springsteen recalled. “This is an interesting concept because it covers just a couple of years from my life.”

He further explained, “This story takes place in 1981 and 1982, focusing on the creation of this particular record while I simultaneously worked on ‘Born in the USA’ and dealt with personal struggles that have accompanied me throughout my life. But it’s fantastic.”

While he was unable to be present for much of the filming, he did make several visits to the set and was intrigued by what he witnessed. “I was on tour during a lot of it, so they shot without me,” he mentioned. “But there were times I was there.”

He added, “It was fascinating to see how it all came together, to revisit my grandmother’s house, walk inside, and experience a sense of what it was like when I was much younger. Therefore, I cherished all these moments.”
