Brian’s Thoughts on the Queen’s Potential New Material: “I Believe This Is Possible”

Queen’s Potential for New Music

Brian May has shared his thoughts on the possibility of new music coming from Queen, nearly 30 years after their last album.

The iconic band released their 15th and final studio album, “Made in Heaven”, in 1995, following the passing of Freddie Mercury in 1991.

Collaboration and Future Possibilities

In 2004, Queen started collaborating with Paul Rogers as their lead vocalist, before Adam Lambert took over the role in 2011. Lambert recently performed with the band during their extensive “Rhapsody Tour”, which concluded in Tokyo in 2024.

In October 2022, Queen shared a track featuring Mercury’s vocals titled “Face to Face”. In a recent interview with Mojo, May suggested that the possibility for new Queen music isn’t entirely closed, stating: “I think this can happen.”

He noted, “Roger (Taylor) and I are constantly writing, sharing ideas, and working on things in our studios.”

These comments align with statements made by Taylor last year, when he was asked about the possibility of recording and releasing new material. “I think we could,” he replied.

“Brian and I spoke recently, and we both agreed that if we have good material, we still have the capability to create.”

There was a hint from May about Queen’s reluctance to produce new music with Lambert last year. “You just didn’t hear anything,” he said. “It needs to be something so special that we would want to present it to the public.”

Lambert also acknowledged the “pressure” that comes with the idea of Queen returning with new material. “If they are going to release something new, it should live up to a certain standard,” he explained. “It should feel right. I find that a bit daunting.”

In 2021, May expressed that the creation of new Queen music “should be a very spontaneous moment,” but he confirmed that recording sessions were indeed taking place.

“Actually, Adam, Roger, and I were in the studio trying out different things, simply because the inspiration was there.”

“So, we are not closed to the idea; it just hasn’t happened yet.”

In 2020, Lambert discussed his experience with Queen, making it clear that he “did not want to impersonate” Mercury: “Freddie and I are different.”

In other news, May recently opened up about his fears of never playing guitar again following a stroke he experienced last year.

Meanwhile, Queen also released a newly mixed, mastered, and expanded reissue of their 1973 debut album of the same name last year.
