Brian May Recalls Freddie Mercury’s Proposals
Brian May recalled how Time Queen closed one of Freddie Mercury’s proposals, saying that “this was not one of his amazing ideas.”
The legendary guitarist looked back at work with the late frontman during a recent interview with MojoField
Insights on Freddie Mercury’s Personality
“At heart, Freddy was one of the most shy people whom I met with, but he was so complete that you would forget,” May told the magazine. “Freddy would always be excited, and his excitement would take possession … He would be so full of excitement that he could hardly speak.”
Further, the musician said that “Freddy’s ideas were outside the wall, daring and different – and we, as a rule, encouraged them.” He continued: “Sometimes the idea that he brought was brilliant, and sometimes not brilliant.”
You can then recall one of the not very good offers of Mercury, which were inspired by the king of pop music.
“He came in one day and announced: “I have this amazing idea. Do you know that Michael Jackson has just released this album called Bad (1987)? Well, listen … What do you think about what we call our next album ‘Good’? ” May remembered.
“We all looked at each other and said: “Well, maybe we should think about it, Freddy.” This is not one of his amazing ideas, but looking back, maybe we were mistaken … “
Collaborative Creativity and Future Projects
In another place in the conversation, May admitted that he was always nervous, presenting his own ideas to his group comrades.
“Every time I brought a new song for boys, I will be damn nervous, thinking: “They will say that this is garbage, they will hate it,” he said. “I am always embarrassed and apologized. It never went away.”

During the same interview, it is shown that new music from Queen “can happen” at some point.
“Both Roger (Taylor) and I constantly write and come up with ideas and do something in our studios,” he explained. “Now in front of me, I could start the Queen’s song.”
Taylor made similar comments last year when he was asked if the group could potentially record and release any new material. “I think we could,” he answered.
“Brian and I spoke the other day, and we both said that if we feel that we have good material, why not? We can still play. We can still sing. Therefore, I do not understand why not.”
The Queen posthumously released her 15th and final studio record “Made in Heaven” in 1995 after the death of Mercury in 1991. They shared a re-open track with the participation of the vocal of the deceased singer “Let’s look at him alone,” in 2022.
In 2023, May showed that the Queen was “a little fond of” creating new music with her current frontman Adam Lambert.
Meanwhile, the musician recently opened up about his fears, worrying that he would never play the guitar again after he suffered injuries last year.
