New Releases by Bon Iver
Bon Iver has released two new songs, “Walk Home” and the collaboration with Daniel Chaim titled “If I Could Only Wait.”
Live Broadcast and Artistic Expressions
Although the singles were released today, a live broadcast occurred yesterday (March 13) featuring 24/7 Trail Camera Camer and an artistic concept that Justin Vernon quietly set up in Wisconsin among the trees last October. Since then, he has utilized it to send messages to a dedicated group of fans.
“Walk Home” continues the narrative established in the previously released single “All Peaceful Love,” which is focused on “sex and irresistible desire,” as described in the press release. “We do not need window curtains,” Justin Vernon sings. “We can let the light come in, we can drop your earthly burden.”
Meanwhile, “If I Could Only Wait” showcases “two voices intertwined to represent the fatigue that can accompany the exhilarating rush of new love, when one may no longer feel capable of being the best version of themselves.”
Both tracks will feature on Bon Iver’s fifth studio album, ‘Sable, Fable,’ set to be released on April 11 through Jagjaguwar (Pre-order here).
“For a second glance at the fable, it cannot be a single; it should have been double,” Vernon explained. “First, ‘Walk Home’ is a joke about the anticipation of quickly shedding your clothes and diving into bed with a true lover. Then—two singles—’If I Could Only Wait.’ A duet. A bilateral scream. How long do we need to hold onto each other?”

“Sable, Fable” will mark Bon Iver’s first full-length album since 2019’s “I, I” and follows last year’s EP “Sable.” The three tracks from the previous collection—“Things Behind Things,” “Speysid E,” and “Season”—will all appear as the first three tracks of this album.
Produced by Vernon and Jim-Evan, “Sable, Fable” was primarily recorded at Vernon’s April Base studio in Wisconsin. The press release notes that the “conceptual genesis” of the LP began in early February 2022, “when the stack arrived at the base with Daniel Chaim.”
It adds: “For several days, Vernon’s vocals and Chaim were intertwined in the snow: ‘If I Could Only Wait,’ a duet that touches on the challenge of being the best version of oneself outside the luminescence of new love.”
The description continues: “Like fables, each track conveys a lesson, and ‘… fable’ represents the essential rhythm necessary when someone is filled with another person or lover—a patient commitment to finding a pace for growth and unity.”
“The elusive and dense layers of sound that once enveloped Justin Vernon’s voice on ‘I, I’ and (2016) ’22, A Million’ have dissipated. The previous four albums formed a seasonal cycle, which has now concluded; ‘Sable, Fable’ serves as a canvas for raw truth.”
In a four-star review of Bon Iver’s EP, NME stated: “Sable can serve as a reminder of the light at the end of the tunnel and the reason to endure through hardships—to move into a new chapter.”
